Understanding the Exam Pattern
Now, let’s get a better understanding of the structure of CWE online examination 2016. Getting an insight into the structure & pattern will help you crack this exam. It will be an online examination held at multiple centers across India in the month of November/ December 2016 & January 2017. It’s primarily divided into two sections viz. the Preliminary Examination and Main Examination.
(I) The Preliminary Examination: This examination consists of 3 parts viz. English Language, Numerical Ability & Reasoning Ability. There is composite time duration of 1 hour to attempt this exam.
NOTE – You have to qualify each of the three parts by acquiring the cut-off marks, as decided by IBPS. However, to get shortlisted for the Main Examination, you must have a sufficiently high overall score as well. Also, depending upon the requirement, IBPS decides the number of candidates to be shortlisted for the online Main Examination under each category.
(II) The Main Examination: This examination consists of 5 parts i.e. Reasoning, English Language, General Awareness (Banking Awareness & Current Affairs), Quantitative Aptitude, & Computer Knowledge. The method of allotting time duration in this examination is quite different from that in Preliminary Examination. Over here, each part has to be completed in a stipulated time slot after which the next part automatically appears on the screen. Thus, the candidate has to attempt 5 parts in succession.
The number of questions, total marks and stipulated time frame is mentioned below for your better clarification:
Hence, the Main Examination is worth 200 marks and the total time you have to spend while appearing in it is 135 minutes.
NOTE – All the above parts will be available in English & Hindi, except English Language.
Penalty (Negative Marking):
There is a penalty for every wrong answer that you attempt and it is applicable to both the examinations. For every question to which you attempt a wrong answer, one fourth or 25% marks of that particular question get deducted from your overall score. If you don’t answer any question and leave it unattempted, then there is no penalty charged for that question.
Exam Strategy (Preliminary Exam)
You have to keep in mind some strategy before appearing in the Preliminary Examination. The strategy must be such that it should help you in getting the cut-off marks and in successfully clearing this examination. Some of the points to keep in mind while taking this exam are:
(I) The number of questions (100 questions) is much higher as compared to the number of minutes (60 minutes) in this examination. Hence, you have to strictly keep a track of the time you devote to each question. It should be obviously less than one minute, 36 seconds to be precise.
(II) You have to focus on all the sections of this exam equally, rather than concentrating only on one or two sections that might be the section(s) you are more confident about. Proper time allocation will help you score the cut-off marks in each section. Pls. remember missing the cut-off marks will ultimately lead to non clearance of this examination.
(III) Be judicious about question selection. Pick the easy and medium difficulty questions. Avoid the lengthy and time consuming questions.
(IV) It is advisable that you attempt the preliminary exam in 2 rounds. In the first round, attempt all the easy questions. A good start will give you confidence. In the second round, you can choose the doable questions of medium difficulty that don’t involve a lot of calculation work.
